We arrived in Long Beach at 5 p.m. Sunday - almost 900 miles since we left Cedar Hills on Saturday. Yesterday we rested some, walked and went to Astoria to the show
and up the Astoria Column. It is on a hill in Astoria and with the mountain and tower it stands 600 feet in the air. it is round and built in 1927.It has 164 steps to the top and stands 125 feet top to bottom. The original cost was 27 thousand dollars. The replacement of the stairs in 2008 cost $400,000 and the column restoration in 1995 cost 1 million dollars.
Nice view of the mouth of the Columbia river as it joins the Pacific ocean. Also the bridge that ties Oregon and Washington. Weather is mid 60’s and it is amazing we have dropped forty degrees since leaving Tri Cities. This is MY kind of summer weather! I love it - raining and cool. jessie thinks I am nuts. The worldmark here is new and very nice. I dare say if we had not have moved to Utah we would have never sold our membership. Today we drove out on the beach and played in the surf and sand for a couple of hours. We were a bit tired because we visited until almost one A.M. Lots of fun and relaxing. I made reservations in Boise for Friday night - I am not up to driving 900 miles in one day. We feel well and that is a great blessing for which I thank the Lord each day. No word from Salt Lake nor do we expect any for most likely two more weeks. But we do think and pray about this process each day. We are really having a nice visit and enjoying ourselves immensely.
