There is a mile long tunnel behind that hole in the wall...black as pitch inside. Except for the occasional window they carved giving light from the world outside. You may not remember, but as a small child we took you through that tunnel when we visited Zion Park on a summer vacation to Southern Utah. I think it was the same vacation when we all got the stomach flu camping at Lake Powell. You were the first one to upchuck in the tent there Shayla.
So good to know where you are. We can only imagine the patience it is taking to get your visas, but down the road it will all be clear as to "why." So good you are enjoying your time. Our prayers are with you and we will enjoy reading your blog. All you share means so much. Love, Dave and Dian
On January 4th, 2010, we will enter the MTC (missionary training center in Provo Utah) for two weeks of training to prepare us for our service in Recife Brasil.
We have been studying Portuguese since August and are starting to feel we will be able to communicate in this beautiful language upon arriving in country. Jessie has done a marvelous job learning from scratch and my Portuguese has been dormant for more than forty years but is slowly coming back.
Our purpose in going to Brasil is to help the church administer the growing missionary program and humanitarian efforts already existent in a country of over a million members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When I first served in this vast and beautiful country there were less than fifty thousand members.
We will live in Recife and work primarily in the mission office there. The church has a well established educational and humanitarian program in place in Recife and the surrounding area to serve both members and non members alike. We will be working as support in the mission office and also providing a variety of efforts to assist the local populace.

Okay, now you have to explain... Why is there a hole in the side of that rock, way up high...like it's supposed to be a road or something...?
