Our First Trip to the Temple

This week we finally had the opportunity to go to the Temple. It was fun to have a session in Portuguese. They gave Mom the ear phones but she said no I do not want them! We were going to be there with one of the zones of Elders but we came early and were on our way out when they showed up. I teased them about getting there "so late in the day". We had lunch in the cafeteria at the temple and it was inexpensive and very good food. We visited more Elders this week in another area and saw our first motorcycle fatality. I knew it would be just a matter of time the way they drive with no fear of accidents - but it does happen. We worked on the computers much of the week posting new members and Mom has been sending out emails to all the missionaries with referrals given for addresses in our mission. Until Mom got here it was just not getting done. We have already heard of several missionaries that are teaching some great investigators they received from Mom getting the referrals out to them. The language is still the elephant in the room that is impossible to ignore. But hey, we are trying and as I tell Mother it does no good to beat ourselves up each day - it will come or not! But we will do our best and be happy for each day to be together, serving the Lord! We love all of you and do so appreciate your prayers in our behalf. They are helping and we like wise pray for each of you daily. Love Mom and Dad - Grandpa and Grandma - Elder and Sister Ivey - take your pick!

What a beautiful temple! How close is it and how often will you get to go? I can't believe you saw a motorcycle fatality! How scary!

Monday is Memorial Day and while I was making a grocery list today I thought about making Dad's famous homemade ice cream. But I've never made it before and am pretty sure I'd just mess it up. The recipe doesn't look too scary but how do you do the rock salt? More importantly.. how have I lived for almost 28 years and not acquired this skill?!?

What a good looking missionary couple you are! I wish we could have gone with you to the temple. How awful to see a motorcycle fatality. Isn't it amazing how we all are struggling with our own little (or big) trials, but the best way it often seems to get through any of them is one day at a time? Obviously patience was something I was sent here to learn. :) You'll master that language before you know it. LOVE YOU BOTH so much!!

Jenny,
The temple is just across town. We can now find our way there and back to our apartment or the office without a map. It takes about 40 minutes to drive it from our apartment, depending on the crazy traffic. It is very beautiful, a haven of coolness and peace. The celestial room feels like home when you walk in. I like it. Did you make the ice cream yesterday? Dad says you can do it! I agree. Put the ice cream pan in the bucket, turn it on and then while it's turning, Dad just puts a couple of inches of ice in the bottom, then scatters about 1/3 cup of rock salt over, then repeats until the bucket is full to just below the rim of the ice-cream lid. Let us know how it turns out. We love you and miss you.

I can't wait to see the Temple in person. The kids are so looking forward to coming to see you. We have been working on the language a bit so that hopefully we will know a few words when we get there. Shayla's right, you are a very good looking missionary couple. :)
